English Beat: March 25th at 7:30pm
Fusing ska, pop, soul, reggae and punk rock, you just can’t stop “The Beat”– they’re taking over Provincetown Town on Saturday, March 25th. Consummate showman that he is, Dave Wakeling has continued to keep The Beat alive and strong. How could he not? Dave continues to tour the world as The English Beat with an amazing all-star ska backing band playing all the hits of The Beat, General Public, and his new songs.
“English Beat were one of the leading lights of the British 2-tone/ska movement of the ‘80s; their politically charged protest songs and smartly observed, saccharine-free love songs still hold up magnificently today.” – Los Angeles Times
Rufus Wainwright: May 6th at 7pm
Praised by the New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists, songwriters, and composers of his generation– and he’ll be performing at the great Town Hall in Provincetown on Saturday, May 6th.
A New York-born, Montreal-raised singer-songwriter, Wainwright has released ten studio albums to date, three DVDs, and three live albums including the Grammy-nominated Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall. He has collaborated with artists such as Elton John, Burt Bacharach, Robert Wilson, David Byrne, Boy George, Joni Mitchell, Pet Shop Boys, Heart, Robbie Williams, Jessye Norman, Billy Joel, Paul Simon, Sting, and producer Mark Ronson, among many others. He has written two operas, numerous songs for movies and TV, and is currently working on his first musical. His latest GRAMMY® and JUNO nominated album, Unfollow the Rules, finds Wainwright at the peak of his powers, entering artistic maturity with passion, honesty, and a new-found fearlessness.
