On Center Gallery is pleased to announce a 2-artist exhibition featuring New Mexico sculptor Kevin Box and Dallas, TX painter Jay Maggio, From Metal to Canvas. Both artists are full-time, museum collected career artists.
Kevin Box is recognized for capturing the delicate nature of paper in museum quality sculpture. Since the beginning of the 21st Century, he has grown to become the featured artist in many of America’s top fine art galleries and fairs. Box’s work has received numerous awards and is held in prominent collections worldwide. In creating his work, Box successfully collaborates with some of the world’s most renowned origami artists, foundries, fabricators and engineers. Box works closely with his wife Jennifer at their home and studio in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Jay Maggio says his intrigue with trees dates to his childhood and continues today through his oil paintings. “I always admired the impressive, and very old, live oaks and tall pecan trees that were plentiful in South Louisiana where I grew up. At a very early age, I can recall a great fondness I had for a large mimosa tree that grew in our front yard. Like a monkey, I would frequently climb up and perch on one of its larger branches and watch the world go by. I think I somehow bonded with that tree as much as one might with a pet. In many cultures and religions, trees represent life, strength, and faith. The incredible growth of trees provides us with the essential element that nourishes our every breath. In the South, it is not uncommon for trees to be named and honored among southern families and communities”. Maggio’s paintings are a sort of homage to their majesty and grace, as well as to the bounty and beauty of the wide-open prairies that create the infinite horizons across the world.
