Provincetown Community Compact Celebrates Its Stories 

Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Provincetown Theater – Free and open to the public

Provincetown Community Compact celebrates its 31st year with an evening of stories, having helped to launch eight non-profits, more than 50 art and community projects, 2,500 dune shack residencies and raised $6M for AIDS, women’s health and the community. Its first story event, Provincetown Community Compact Celebrates Its Stories will be held on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the Provincetown Theater. Curtain is at 7:00 pm with a social hour at 6:00 pm catered by Far Land Provisions with libations from the Provincetown Brewery and Truro Vineyards.

The event is free and open to the public. A raffle will be held for three, two-night stays in C-Scape Dune Shack. This evening is part of the summer long activities of Forum 24, sponsored by the Provincetown Art Gallery Association. For more information contact thecompact.org.

The Provincetown Community Compact Celebrates Its Stories is produced by Compact board member Gail Strickland, featuring six individuals who have participated in and benefited from The Compact’s programs: dune shack residencies, Prayer Ribbons, Swim for Life and the Think-ubator program, which provides fiscal sponsorship and mentorship. The speakers are:

Jackie Saltalamacchia, Native American dune shack residency, member of the Wampanoag Herring Pond Tribe in Plymouth

Ernie Martin, Think-ubator project, Boy Next Door productions, directing a documentary about HIV/AIDS in Provincetown

Marian Roth, artist and participant in dune shack residency, Herring Cove Bathhouse project (Ten Days That Shook the World) and the Meadows Motel project

Diana Souza, volunteer with Lily House, beneficiary of the Swim for Life

Ngina Lythcott, school committee member, Provincetown Schools dune shack residency,         Swim for Life beneficiary; Think-ubator projects: Tim McCarthy Human Rights Champion Awardee 2023 and Juneteenth organizer

Summer of Sass, a Think-ubator project that became a non-profit; speaker to be announced.

The Provincetown Community Compact is a non-profit organization established in 1993 to nurture Provincetown and the Outer Cape. Its mission is to enhance the well-being of  the community through projects that incorporate the arts, the environment and the economy. It has birthed eight non-profits such as the Provincetown International Film Festival, the Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, Provincetown Commons, Summer of Sass, Tim McCarthy Human Rights Champion Fund and Pilgrim Bark Park. The results position The Compact as an economic generator.

The 37th Provincetown Swim for Life & Paddler Flotilla, set for September 7, supports thirteen non-profits: Helping Our Women, AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Outer Cape Health Services, Provincetown Schools, West End Racing Club, Accessible Provincetown, Summer of Sass, Soup Kitchen in Provincetown, Provincetown Rescue Squad, The Compact Community Fund, Lily House, Native Land Conservancy and Cape Cod Children’s Place.

The Prayer Ribbons Project, initiated at the Swim for Life, has collected 4000 personal messages on 5-foot long colored ribbons from people honoring loved ones – alive and deceased. Strands of the Ribbons have traveled to the Massachusetts State House, US Congress, Boston’s Fenway Health events and annually to Orlando, Florida for the commemoration of the Pulse nightclub shootings. They will be installed in front of Orlando City Hall June 10-17, 2024.
