William Cash & Robert Sherer Male Figurative paintings/pyrographs Exhibit at the Lyman-Eyer Gallery
The Lyman-Eyer Gallery, 432 Commercial Street in Provincetown, is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by William Cash and Robert Sherer. William Cash’s latest body of work, The Provincetown Series, represents the perfect marriage of his conceptual and technical concerns as a painter. “The town is undoubtedly one of the most liberated places in America – men feel a greater freedom here to express themselves physically, emotionally and spiritually. And, the beautiful light of Cape Cod plays perfectly on the male form, illuminating their actions. It is not enough for me to simply depict the physical beauty of men, their internal lives must also come into play. I try to invest all of my figures with an emotional and spiritual life beyond the confines of the painted canvas.” William is a graduate of Kennesaw State University where he received his B.F.A and is represented in Provincetown and Atlanta. Robert Sherer like many American boys grew up in a world of sports, camping, scouting, and war gaming. “The secret rites of passage and relationship intrigues played out in the locker rooms, pup tents, and tree houses helped to define me as a man. Because my youth most closely resembles the classic illustrations of camping guide books and scouting manuals of the 1950s and '60s, I have found it necessary to derive my biographical drawings from these visual resource materials. To imbue these wood-burned images with an air of authenticity I render them with actual camp craft materials such as leather, rustic wood, tarpaulin, lanyards and grommets. I am adept with these materials because they were some of my most comforting diversions during those thrilling and perilous years of self discovery. They also provided me with a sense of personal achievement because they earned me merit badges. It is my hope that these works will help others to reconnect with the springtime of life.” Robert Sherer, is an internationally exhibiting visual artist and writer. His career in the arts has covered such disciplines as self-employed visual artist, critic, juror, lecturer, educator and art dealer. He studied painting, drawing, and printmaking at Walker College, Atlanta College of Art, Georgia State University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received his Masters of Fine Art (M.F.A.) degree in 1992. From 1992-97, Sherer was the director of the Lowe Gallery in Atlanta, GA. In 2001, he represented the USA in the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. In 2002, he represented the USA in the Triennale de Paris in Paris, France. Sherer will represent the USA in the Florence Biennale 2007 in Florence, Italy. He is currently a professor of Drawing and Painting at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta, GA.
These intriguing and personal images will be on view from August 15 through August 27. The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. The Lyman-Eyer Gallery is open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Meditation Without Gurus
Great teachings can lead us to wisdom but it's important to remember what both the Buddha and the postmodernists taught: words are just words and don't describe anything "real." Meditation can take us to that place beyond words and concepts. That's where bliss resides. In this class, we explore the questions of life while remembering that there can be no right answers and that deep presence is more powerful "truth."

Lea DeLaria is HARD CORE
Lea DeLaria is HARD CORE
Lea DeLaria has been a professional lesbian since 1982. "Before that I freelanced." She burst onto the stand up scene as the FIRST OPENLY GAY COMIC on network TV. She parlayed this fame into specials on HBO, SHOWTIME and COMEDY CENTRAL as well as guest appearances on practically every sitcom of the 90's as the lesbian who inappropriately hits on straight women." Its so funny I never get tired of it." After years in L.A. playing PE teachers and police lieutenants, Lea's second big break came when cast in the Broadway revival of On The Town for which she won OBIE, DRAMA DESK and THEATER WORLD AWARDS. After this she remained in NYC where they let her play everything... straight women: she was an ugly stepsister with ANA GASTEYER in NYC Opera's Cinderella or lesbians: Mama Morton with JASMINE GUY in Chicago even men: Lea played Eddie with JOAN JETT in The Rocky Horror Show. "I got paid to make out with Joan 8 times a week." Lea tours the world performing her one of a kind set coupling in your face queer comedy, " I've been officially censored by the US Congress" with hard core swinging Jazz." I have 3 records out on the Warner Jazz label." If you are already a fan of Lea's then you know what to do. If you have never seen her, Lea DeLaria is a genuine Queer Legend she is not to be missed.
